Buddhism was born and thrived in India for 1700 years. Between the 5th century B.C. and 12th century A.D. the whole of India was rich with the culture of Buddhist life that spread to other parts of the world. Gautama, born in the sixth century BC, was the son of the ruler of the Sakya clan. His birthplace in the foothills of the Terai is known as Lumbini, which is now a part of Nepal.

RECOMMENDED PLAN - ITINERARY

DAY 01 : DELHI - VARANASI (By Flight)

Morning take a flight to Varanasi. Upon arrival you will be transfered to 3 star luxurious hotel. Evening you'll be taken for a local city tour of Varanasi visiting Banaras Hindu University (B.H.U.) & New Vishvanath temple inside the B.H.U. campus, Sankat Mochan Hanuman temple, Durga temple and Tulsi Manas temple. Also visit Bharat Mata temple dedicated to Mother Land India. Then visit Benarasi Saree centre. Overnight stay will be at Varanasi.

DAY 02 : VARANASI -SARNATH–BODHGAYA (240 Kms)

Early morning you'll have a boat ride on river Ganga. In this ancient city of pilgrimage, the bathing ghats are main attraction. Then to the Kashi Vishwanath Temple which is dedicated to Lord Shiva. After breakfast you will be taken to Sarnath - the site where Buddha delivered his first sermon to his five disciples, preaching the middle path for attaining 'Nirvana'. After lunch proceed to Bodhgaya which holds extreme religious importance .

DAY 03 : BODHGAYA - RAJGIR - PATNA (120 Kms)

Morning visit Maha Bodhi Temple, the main place of worship. Then proceed to Patna enroute visiting Rajgir, which is a great holy place of the Buddhists. The ruins of Rajgir, which have been partly excavated, cover an extensive area with in and outside the hill enclosure and include the ancient defenses and remains of habitations, shrines, stupas and monasteries. A monastery with large elliptical halls has been recently excavated and identified as Jeevak Amravan, mentioned in the Buddhist texts as a favorite retreat of Buddha. On arrival Patna, check into hotel.

DAY 04 : PATNA

After breakfast full day city tour of Patna visiting Golghar, Patna museum, Kumhrar – excavation site of Pataliputra, Agam Kuan – the well dating back Ashokan period, etc. Evening you'll visit Mahatma Gandhi Setu (bridge) at river Ganga, for a sunset view. Overnight stay will be at Patna.

 

DAY 05 : PATNA - VAISHALI - KUSHINAGAR (270 Kms)

Morning drive to Kushinagar, enroute visit Vaishali which derives its name from King Vishal, whose story of valour is narrated in the Ramayana. Being associated with Buddha, Vaishali has emerged as a historical and scenic place. Lord Buddha came thrice here and also gave his last sermon at Vaishali. Amrapali, a courtesan, gifted a mango grove to Buddha and later she became a Buddhist nun. Vaishali was also the venue for the second Buddhist council, 100 years after the death of Buddha. The stupas found in Vaishali had stone caskets, which contained the relics of Buddha. Continue drive to Kushinagar. On arrival Kushinagar, check into hotel.

DAY 06 : KUSHINAGAR - LUMBINI - SARAVASTI (270 Kms)

Morning drive to Saravasti enroute visit Lumbini - the birthplace of Lord Buddha. In the afternoon visit the Mayadevi temple and proceed to Saravasti. On arrival Sarawasti, check into hotel.

DAY 07 : SARAVASTI - LUCKNOW (250 Kms)

In the morning proceed for the sight seeing tour of the city visiting Sahet Mahet, Angulimar's cave and Sujata's House. In the afternoon proceed to Lucknow. On arrival Lucknow, check into hotel.

DAY 08 : LUCKNOW

After breakfast full day city tour visiting Bara Imambara with its famous Bhul Bhulaiya (meaning labyrinth), Chota Imambara, Roomi Darwaza, Dilkhusa Garden, The Residency, Shah Najaf, La Martiniere, Ram Krishan Math (Nirala Nagar). Also visit the chikan embroidery work, famous at Lucknow. Evening you'll be free at leisure on your own.

DAY 09 : LUCKNOW - DELHI (By Flight)

After breakfast transfer to the airport for a flight back to Delhi. Upon arrival Delhi, transfer to hotel Orchid Garden or Singh Group or similar. Evening you'll be free at leisure on your own.

DAY 10 : DELHI LOCAL CITY TOUR DEPARTURE

After breakfast you'll go for a half day local city tour of Delhi visiting Jama Masjid, Raj Ghat (Samadhi of Mahatma Gandhi), India Gate (War Memorial), bypass Parliament & President house, Mahatma Gandhi & Indira Gandhi museums. After lunch, departure to airport/ railway station for the onward destination, along with unforgettable memories.
